Patrol Officer Skye Ortiz

Skye Ortiz was born and raised in California, where he graduated from high school in 2002. In March of 2003 he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia, where he was a Military Police Officer. In November of 2004 he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, where he served as a combat operations gunner for a Military Police squad until November of 2005. In 2006 he was assigned to Chievres, Belgium, and served as a Protective Service Officer and Military Police Investigator until 2008, when he was reassigned back to Fort Gordon, Georgia, as a Military Police Investigator and SRT team leader. In 2009 he was assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington, as a squad leader for the 170th Military Police Company.

In 2010 he was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Combat Action Badge for multiple combat engagements.

Hired by the Ferndale Police Department in 2011, Skye graduated from the Criminal Justice Training Academy in April, 2012, and began his field training as a patrol officer.

Skye is married to a Ferndale native and they have two children.  The family enjoys long walks, barbecues and family trips.
