One of the advantages of working for a small police department is that officers often get to do the investigative work on cases they've initiated. But because they also have patrol duties, they don't always have the time to give the cases the attention they deserve, or may not have the training to investigate some of the more complicated felony cases. This is where our Detective "division" comes in, which consists of one busy woman, Detective Melanie Campos.

Besides being lead investigator on all major crimes that occur in Ferndale, Detective Campos handles most felony cases, Ferndale's registered sexual offenders, and will on occasion also don her uniform to cover shift shortages in the patrol division.

Detective Campos was promoted to detective on September 1, 2008.
